James Lascelles Global Tribal Music
Presented By James Lascelles
Global Tribal Music
Something of a musical maverick himself, James made his name as co-fonder and keyboard player of unusual UK cult band the Global Trucking Company, who made it their mission never to sign to a record label, lived together in a commune, and mainly performed at benefits and free festivals.
Following the demise of that band James became a session musician and in 1980 joined jazz/funk outfit The Breakfast Band, who released two albums and had a dance hit with ‘LA 14’.
Having spent many years living in different parts of the world James became more and more interested in world music – and began recording tribal music in North Africa and New Mexico, creating his own label at the time called Tribal Music International.
In recent years he has worked closely with Steve Harley, playing keyboards in his legendary Cockney Rebel band. James also leads his own world music band, Talking Spirit, and more recently, the James Lascelles Quartet. He also occasionally works with Mike Storey as The Ivory Brothers.
James has been a regular guest on Channel Radio’s Craig Avery show for a number of years and now hosts his very own eclectic Channel Radio show – every Tuesday evening from 9 to 11.
Check it out. It’s a fascinating show like no other…
